General questions
Do I need a referral to come in?
No. You can reach out to us directly, and if your insurance happens to require a referral, our team will take care of it for you.
Do you work with my insurance?
We work with most major insurances, and our staff handles the details for you so it isn’t something you have to stress about.
How do I book an appointment?
Give us a call, or request a consultation online. Our staff will help you find a time that works for you, and answer any questions you may have about our practice.
How soon can I be seen?
Usually within a day or two. The quickest way onto the schedule is to call or message us, and we’ll get back to you within about 12 hours.
Where are you located?
We see patients at several locations across New Jersey, so there’s almost always an office location that’s conveniently located next to where you live or work. You can browse all of our locations to find the one most convenient to you.
Will I definitely need surgery?
Around 70% of the patients we see get better without surgery, through physical therapy, chiropractic care, or injections. However, your specific situation will dictate the your care needs. At The Jey Institute, we always start with the least-invasive approach first.
Patients & family members
Can a family member come with me?
Absolutely, and we’d encourage it. Having someone there to listen and ask questions is always a good thing.
How do I reach the doctor if something comes up?
Our patients get real access to Dr. Jeyamohan and his team, with regular follow-ups built into your care.
How long will I be laid up after surgery?
For most patients, not long at all. The vast majority go home the same day, walk that day, and are back to work within one to two weeks.
What if I’m just not ready for surgery?
That’s completely fine. Plenty of people start with conservative care, and we’ll never push you into a procedure you’re not comfortable with.
What should I expect at my first visit?
We’ll go through your history, examine you, and usually order imaging like an MRI so we can see exactly what’s going on before recommending anything.
Will I be stuck on pain medication?
Most patients are off narcotic pain medication within about two weeks of surgery.
Spinal care
Does spine surgery mean a long hospital stay?
For the vast majority of patients, no – over 95% go home the same day rather than spending days in a hospital bed.
I had spine surgery years ago and it’s failing — can you help?
Quite possibly. Revision spine surgery is one of our specialties, and we often handle these cases minimally invasively, even ones other surgeons won’t touch.
What conditions do you treat?
Common ones include sciatica, herniated and bulging discs, pinched nerves, spinal stenosis, and ongoing neck and back pain, among others.
What does minimally invasive spine surgery actually mean?
We operate through very small incisions using a tube and microscope, which usually means less tissue damage, a faster recovery, and going home the same day.
Physical therapy
Can conservative care really fix my pain without surgery?
For a lot of people, yes. About 70% of the patients we see get better without ever needing a procedure.
Do I have to have surgery, or are there other options?
Most patients never need surgery. We start with conservative care like physical therapy, chiropractic, and injections, and only consider surgery if those don’t do the job.
How does physical therapy fit into my care?
It’s often the first thing we recommend. PT can strengthen the muscles that support your spine, ease your symptoms, and in many cases resolve the problem entirely.
Is physical therapy available in-house?
Yes. PT, chiropractic care, and pain management are all part of how we treat patients, so your care stays under one roof.
What happens if physical therapy doesn’t work?
If conservative care doesn’t get you where you need to be, we’ll walk through the next steps together, which may include injections or, if it’s warranted, surgery.
Will you just push me toward surgery?
No. Our whole approach is built around trying the least invasive options first and only operating when it’s truly the right call.
Providers
Does the doctor treat athletes?
Yes. Dr. Jeyamohan and the broader team work with professional athletes as well as everyday lifters, climbers, and weekend warriors.
Is this part of a big hospital system?
No, we’re a fully independent practice, which lets us stay focused entirely on what’s best for each patient.
What are Dr. Jeyamohan’s credentials?
He’s a fellowship-trained complex and minimally invasive spinal neurosurgeon with more than 10 years of experience and over 3,000 procedures performed.
What makes the Jey Institute different?
We handle your entire journey under one roof – from your first visit through conservative care, surgery if it’s needed, and follow-up, so you’re never bounced between providers.
Who will I be seeing?
For spine issues, you’ll see Dr. Jeyamohan. For other concerns like shoulders, knees, or hips, you’ll be matched with the right specialist on our team.
Will I actually get time with my doctor?
Yes. Our patients get genuine access to their provider and regular follow-ups, not a rushed handoff.
